At Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School, technology is used purposefully to enhance learning, foster creativity and prepare students to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Through our 1:1 iPad program, students are provided with opportunities to engage in meaningful, authentic and future-focused learning experiences across all curriculum areas.
iPads are not simply a replacement for traditional learning tools; they provide students with new ways to create, collaborate, communicate and demonstrate their understanding. Students use their devices to record and reflect on their learning, access digital resources, receive timely feedback and share their achievements with teachers, peers and families. This approach supports student ownership of learning and encourages learners to become active participants in their educational journey.
Creativity, Innovation and Problem Solving
Throughout the school, iPads are used to support inquiry, design thinking and creative problem-solving. Students have opportunities to design, create and evaluate digital solutions, develop computational thinking skills and explore emerging technologies through engaging learning experiences.
In Technologies lessons, students use digital tools to investigate real-world problems, create digital products, gather and analyse data, document design processes and showcase their learning through multimedia presentations. Learning experiences may include coding, robotics, digital design, photography, video creation and collaborative projects that encourage innovation and critical thinking.
By using technology in authentic contexts, students develop the confidence and skills needed to be creative thinkers, effective communicators and responsible digital citizens.
Personalised and Inclusive Learning
At Good Shepherd, we recognise that every learner is unique. iPads provide students with multiple ways to access, engage with and demonstrate their learning. Students can communicate their understanding through text, images, audio, video and interactive media, allowing learning to be personalised to individual strengths and needs.
Digital tools also provide opportunities for immediate feedback, reflection and goal setting, helping students to understand their progress and identify next steps in their learning. Through regular conferencing, reflection and digital portfolios, students are encouraged to take increasing ownership of their growth and achievement.
Building Digital Citizens
A strong focus is placed on developing safe, responsible and ethical technology users. Students are explicitly taught digital citizenship skills, including online safety, respectful communication, information literacy and responsible use of digital technologies.
By combining contemporary learning practices with a strong foundation of Catholic values, Good Shepherd aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions required to contribute positively to their communities now and into the future.
