At Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School, learning and teaching are shaped by our commitment to ensuring every student is known, valued and supported to achieve their full potential. Guided by our motto, "Called by Name," we create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to grow as confident, capable and compassionate learners.
Our approach to learning is informed by the Brisbane Catholic Education Learning and Teaching Framework, the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, and our belief that every child can experience success when provided with high expectations, explicit teaching, personalised support and meaningful opportunities to learn.
At Good Shepherd, students engage in learning experiences that:
- promote curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving
- provide opportunities for collaboration, communication and independent learning
- build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and digital technologies
- encourage students to reflect on their learning, set goals and respond to feedback
- connect learning to authentic and real-world contexts
- celebrate diversity and foster a sense of belonging for every learner
- embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives to deepen understanding, respect and appreciation of Australia's First Peoples
We are committed to evidence-informed teaching practices that support student growth and achievement. Teachers use assessment and data to monitor progress, identify next steps for learning and ensure teaching is responsive to the needs of every student. Learning is personalised through targeted support, extension opportunities and inclusive practices that enable all students to thrive.
As a contemporary Catholic school, we recognise that learning extends beyond academic achievement. Through a partnership between students, staff, families and the wider community, we nurture the spiritual, social, emotional and intellectual development of each child. Inspired by the example of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we empower students to become lifelong learners who contribute positively to their communities and confidently embrace the opportunities and challenges of the future.
