Learning & Teaching

At Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School, learning and teaching are shaped by our commitment to ensuring every student is known, valued and supported to achieve their full potential. Guided by our motto, "Called by Name," we create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to grow as confident, capable and compassionate learners. 

Our approach to learning is informed by the Brisbane Catholic Education Learning and Teaching Framework, the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, and our belief that every child can experience success when provided with high expectations, explicit teaching, personalised support and meaningful opportunities to learn. 

At Good Shepherd, students engage in learning experiences that:

  • promote curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving
  • provide opportunities for collaboration, communication and independent learning
  • build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and digital technologies
  • encourage students to reflect on their learning, set goals and respond to feedback

We are committed to evidence-informed teaching practices that support student growth and achievement. Teachers use assessment and data to monitor progress, identify next steps for learning and ensure teaching is responsive to the needs of every student. Learning is personalised through targeted support, extension opportunities and inclusive practices that enable all students to thrive.

As a contemporary Catholic school, we recognise that learning extends beyond academic achievement. Through a partnership between students, staff, families and the wider community, we nurture the spiritual, social, emotional and intellectual development of each child. Inspired by the example of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we empower students to become lifelong learners who contribute positively to their communities and confidently embrace the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Curriculum

Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School sets a high standard across all subject areas. Our teachers are committed and focused specialists in primary education and are trained to deliver the best possible learning outcomes.

At Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School we plan, teach, assess and report V9 of The Australian Curriculum.  

Classroom teachers cover -
  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • HASS - Civics and Citizenship, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Specialist teachers cover -
  • The Arts (Music, Dance & Drama)
  • Technologies (Design and Technologies, Digital Technologies)
  • Health & Physical Education
  • Oral Language (P/Yr1)

From 2027 we will also have a specialist Literacy/Literature teacher who will provide exciting opportunities to promote a love of reading.  These will include debating and Reader's Cup.
